Questions to Council about Woodlands Pony Club

In light of the community's concern about the secret, approved sale of the Woodlands Pony Club land at Wilberforce, we wanted to share the questions we posed to the councillors who voted in favour of the sale (see below). No councillors have responded but we’ll publish their responses in full, if or when they reply. Hawkesbury Council refused to answer our questions citing 'confidentiality'. Follow the Hawkesbury Post for complete coverage of this issue tomorrow.

1.Given that the agenda item included both a public and confidential portion, why did you choose to move the entire debate into a confidential session, despite public expectations for an open discussion?

2.Typically, a significant asset divestment by the council would involve extensive consultation followed by either a public auction or tender. Why was this approach deemed inappropriate in this case?

3.Is it ethical to accept nearly $6 million from a potential buyer, knowing they are unlikely to realise that value through rezoning?

4.If the land was considered unsuitable for the new fire control centre, why do you believe it would be appropriate for a pet food manufacturer to use it to expand their factory?
