A 25-year-old man has tragically lost his life following a water-skiing accident on the Hawkesbury River early Sunday morning.

Emergency services were called to a boat ramp in Lower Portland at around 7:2 am today, after receiving reports of a marine incident. Police said officers from the Hawkesbury Police Area Command arrived to find the man had sustained critical injuries when he struck the water at high speed while being towed by a boat.

Despite efforts by NSW Ambulance paramedics to revive him, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have established a crime scene and are preparing a report for the coroner as part of their ongoing investigation. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.
